PURPOSE: A composition containing ponciri fructus extract and a preparation method thereof are provided. The extract has excellent inhibiting activity of histamine release therefore, it is used for protecting and treating skin pruritus. CONSTITUTION: A pruritic symptom is mainly caused by histamine releasing from the mast cells. The extract of ponciri fructus is known to effectively inhibit histamine release. The process for preparing the extract of ponciri fructus comprises the steps of: purifying and powdering ponciri fructus; extracting by dipping the ponciri fructus powder in an extracting solvent selected from the group consisting of purified water, methanol, ethanol, propanol, butanol, glycerol, propyleneglycol, 1,3-bytyleneglycol, methylacetate, ethylacetate, benzene, hexane, diethylether, dichloromethane at room temperature; filtering and concentrating the resulting solution; and freeze-drying the concentrates.
