PURPOSE: Blast resistant and blast directing container assemblies are provided to receive explosive articles and prevent or minimize damage in the event of an explosion. CONSTITUTION: A blast resistant container assembly for receiving an explosive comprises a container of blast resistant material being collapsible for storage when empty, and blast mitigating material(14) located within the container. The container assembly comprises a plurality of faces, each face connected to another face at least one common edge with a fibrous material, the fibrous material functioning as a hinge between the faces. The blast mitigating material is selected from the group consisting of polymeric foams, particulates, condensable gases, heat sink materials, foamed glass, microballoons, balloons, bladders, hollow spheres, wicking fibers, and combinations thereof. And the material comprises an aqueous foam.
