PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sealing device for an exhaust pipe to reliably seal a portion, where the two cylindrical end parts of a pair of division exhaust pipes are inserted in each other for coupling, with high sealing ability. SOLUTION: The cylindrical small end part 3 of a second division exhaust pipe 2 being one of intercoupled division pipes is inserted in the cylindrical large end part 8 of a first division exhaust pipe 1 being the other of them, and a seal ring 6 having an outer peripheral edge making contact with the inner wall surface f2 of a cylindrical large end part 8 is fitted in the annular recessed groove 5 of the outer wall surface f1 of the cylindrical small end part 3. In a so formed sealing device for an exhaust pipe, a backup ring 7 serving as an axial elastic press member elastically compression-deformed in the direction of the common axis L is arranged in an annular gap having a gap width (e) between the inside surface of the annular recessed groove 5 and the seal ring 6.
