PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid error diagnosis, and guarantee stable stratified combustion at all times by estimating a condition in which detecting accuracy of an engine generating torque is reduced on the basis of an information which is measured for detecting the engine generating torque, and inhibiting detection of the engine generating torque by torque detecting means at the time of estimation. SOLUTION: In a control unit 20 during engine operation, it is judged on the basis of a signal from a crank angle sensor 21 whether it is a start timing of a first crank period which is set in a period when rotation angle speed is most increased during a combustion stroke of each cylinder. In the case of 'YES', a value of a timer for measuring various kinds of cycles is read in. When a complete timing of the first crank period is judged, a value of the timer is read in. Angle speed of engine rotation is detected per combustion stroke as a cycle T1 in a crank angle period to be set, and detection of engine generating torque is inhibited when a valueΔT which a previous cycle T1n is subtracted from a new cycle T1 (n+1) is a prescribed value or more.
