PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound capable of giving cured products of high refractive index and mechanical strength, and useful for dental restorative materials in particular. SOLUTION: This new compound is a compound of formula I [R1 is e.g. a univalent to trivalent 6-68C organic group which is composed of C, H and O, free from carboxyl etc., and has at least one kind of 1-3 aromatic ring (s) such as benzene ring; R2 is a group of formula II (A1 is O or the like; B1 and B2 are each H or the like; r1 to r4 are each 0-10, wherein r1 to r3 are not zero simultaneously; the lone pair at the right end is bound to a group Y) or the like; R3 is H or methyl; Y is a group of formula III (A3 is O or the like, being bound to a group R2) or the like; n is 1-3], e.g. benzene-1,3-dicarboxylic acid bis[(2-methacryloyloxyethyl)amide]. The compound of formula I is obtained, for example, by reaction between a compound of the formula R1-(COCl)n (e.g. isophthaloyl dichloride) and a compound of formula IV (e.g. 2-aminoethyl methacrylate).
