PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject cosmetic having excellent transparency, not lowering transparency with time, having extremely improved utility by including a gel composition containing hydroxystearic acid, an oil component and a cellu lose derivative. SOLUTION: This cosmetic comprises (A) hydroxystearic acid (a saturated fatty acid containing an asymmetric hydroxyl group at the 12-position obtained by hydrogenating ricinoleic acid), (B) an oil component having preferably 1.4-1.6 refractive index (e.g. avocado oil, cacao butter or beeswax) and (C) a cellulose derivative of the formula A-[-O-CH3-C(OH)H-R]n (A is a residue after removal of n hydroxy groups from an alkyl cellulose, an alkyl alkyl cellulose or a hydroxyalkyl cellulose; R is a 6-30C alkyl; n is >=1) such as hydroxypropyl cellulose hydroxyhexadecyl ether. Preferably the cosmetic comprises 0.1-50 wt.% of the component A, 1099.9 wt.% of the component B and 0.01-30 wt.% of the component C.
