PURPOSE: A method for initializing an AAL(ATM Adaptive Layer) driver is provided to initialize the AAL driver of an ATM card, in embodying a CPE(Customer Premises Equipment) required to accept an internet service in the ATM network. CONSTITUTION: A host memory for a user buffer is assigned(S1). A host memory for an index is assigned(S2). It is confirmed whether host memory assignment has been succeeded(S3). If host memory assignment has been succeeded, host memory assignment and initialization for a receiving free buffer ring are carried out(S4). Host memory assignment and initialization for a transmitting discripter ring are carried out(S5). A host memory for a transmitting completion ring is assigned(S6). A host memory for a receiving completion ring is assigned(S7). It is confirmed whether host memory assignment has been succeeded(S8). If host memory assignment has been succeeded, a control memory data structure is initialized(S9). The transmit-receive function of an ATM card is enabled(S10).
