PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the manufacturing cost of and lighten the weight of a binding apparatus for binding members to be bound, such as a plurality of straps or ropes which are parallely arranged in their longitudinal directions, by winding binding strings around the members at their arbitrary positions. SOLUTION: A binding apparatus has a string winding gear 27 for winding a binding string around members to be bound and string take-up/fastening units for locking the binding string at portions on both sides of the string winding gear and for pulling and fastening the binding string at the locking parts on the side of the string winding gear. This binding apparatus is provided with two transmission systems, i.e., a string winding gear drive system 111 for driving the string winding gear and a string take-up/fastening unit drive system 112 for driving the two string take-up/fastening units. Power from a motor 22, which is a driving power source, is branched to be inputted into the two transmission systems, and clutches 101, 102 are disposed at a branching unit, respectively, thereby forming the string winding gear and the string, take-up/fastening units so that they can be driven with one motor 22 only.
