PURPOSE: A biaxially-oriented pet foil for use for smd foil capacitors, method for the production of the foil and its use as foil capacitors in smd tec are provided. CONSTITUTION: An invention relates to a single or multilayer biaxially oriented polyester foil having a thickness of more than 160°C; S 200 (TD) is less than 5%; the foil fixing peak is more than 210°C; the foil thickness is 1.39-1.41 g/cm¬3 and Ts(TD) is the temperature at which the cross shrinking begins, S 200 (TD) stands for cross shrinking (in %) at 200°C, S 200 (MD) for longitudinal shrinking (in %) at 200°C, Ns220 for the shrinking force (in N) at 220°C and Ns160 for the shrinking force (in N) at 160°C.
