PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect clogging of nozzle or use up of ink. SOLUTION: A sensor 10 for detecting an ink particle 9 being ejected from a nozzle upon conduction of the driving heater of a head 3 comprises an infrared detection element 11, and a condenser lens 12 arranged on the front side of the detection element 11. The ink particle 9 is arranged to pass through the field of view 13 in front of the condenser lens 12 which has a substantially constant area up to a place where the ink particle 9 passes. |
