PRODUCTION OF SINTERED GRANULE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce sintered granules while unnecessitating the drying of granules before firing or extremely shortening the conventional drying time. SOLUTION: Powder of expansive shale or expansive clay is mixed with water and 10-50 wt.% intermediate fired product of cement clinker containing quicklime separated from the suspension preheater of a cement firing system. The mixture is granulated and the resulting granules are fired in a rotary kiln to produce the objective artificial lightweight aggregate.
