PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for restoring microorganisms in a nonproliferous existence form (in particular, Helicobacter pylori in a coccoid form) by giving an awakening stimulus thereto and culturing them in a liquid medium containing a cell wall repairing agent, etc. SOLUTION: This method for restoring microorganisms in a nonproliferous existence form comprises the following practice: microorganisms in such a form as mentioned above (e.g. Helicobacter pylori in a coccoid form) are awoken by giving a thermal stimulus thereto in a solution containing an ammonium salt such as ammonium sulfate; the resultant microorganisms are then cultured in a liquid medium containing a cell wall repairing agent such as sodium pyruvate, human erythrocyte lysate and animal serum and then, pref. proliferated in the medium; wherein it is preferable to prepare a solution containing an ammonium salt and intended for giving an awakening stimulus to the microorganisms or a medium containing a cell wall repairing agent, human erythrocyte lysate and animal serum and intended for restoring the microorganisms.
