PURIFICATION OF SACCHARIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain L-arabinose of high purity from a stock solution that is prepared by hydrolysis of plant tissues and includes at least L-arabinose, xylo- oligosaccharides and arabino-oligosaccharides. SOLUTION: The stock solution that is prepared by hydrolyzing plant tissues and includes at least L-arabinose and oligosaccharides comprising L-arabinose and/or xylose is fed together with water to a pseudo-moving bed type chromatography apparatus that is provided with a packed bed filled with a separating agent and has the passageway through which the solution can flow in one direction, and the solution in the filling bed is allowed to move in one direction. Thus, at least L-arabinose and the oligosaccharides are separated from each other to form the concentration distribution of individual substances in the filled bed and at least one concentrated solution of L-arabinose and a concentrated solution of the oligosaccharide are drawn off from the filled bed. In addition, the part in which these saccharides remain mixed, not sufficiently separated in the filled bed may always remain therein through the proper operation.
