PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To give information for effectively utilizing a printing time up to an end of printing by notifying the printing time to a user. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder receives print information by a request from a terminal unit 20 through an I/F 18. The recorder confirms whether the information of one head width is received or not while storing the information in a RAM 16. If the recorder receives the information of the one head width, the recorder decides whether there is print data in the information or not, and counts number of the presence and number of the absence. The recorder repeats this operation until the information of one page is received. After the recorder receives the information of the one page, the recorder calculates a printing time. Its calculated result is stored in the RAM 16, the time is displayed on a display unit 14, and its printing operation is started. After the printing operation is ended, the display of the time is finished. And the printing time in the RAM 16 is cleared. Then, whether there is next page or not is decided. If yes, the above-described operation is repeated. If NO, the operation is finished.
