PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multivalve intake engine to produce an effect equivalent to an effect when arrangement of an intake and exhaust hole is rotated without rotation in a 90 deg. arc and improve exhaust gas characteristics and engine performance by obtaining a high swirl ratio. SOLUTION: A plurality of inlet holes 5a and 5b per cylinder are formed in a cylinder head 2 in the direction 3 of a camshaft with a given distance therebetween and intake air passages 7a and 7b are connected to the inlet holes 5a and 5b, respectively. In a so formed multivalve intake type engine 1, the intake air passage 7a situated upper stream of a swirl of intake air passages 7a and 7b is bent in a manner to pass a space between a head bolt 12, positioned between cylinders 4 and 4, and the adjoining cylinders 4. This constitution causes to connect the intake air passage 7a along the direction (a swirl direction 11) of the tangential line of a cylinder bore 4. Thus, intake air 14 is injected from the direction of the tangential line of the cylinder bore 4, a swirl ratio is increased, and exhaust gas characteristics and engine performance are improved. Further, since the inlet holes 5a and 5b are arranged in parallel to a camshaft direction 3, when an engine is formed in a DOHC, coping with VVT is practicable.
