PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer which can print the information of an article with an arbitrary font (character type) desired by a user onto the article without relying upon the manufacturer of the ink jet printer. SOLUTION: A standard font prestored in a flash ROM 7 and referred to at the time of printing the information of an article is read out. A user designates modification of the standard font thus read out through an input section 2 and the modified font is stored in the flash ROM 7. A print section 4 prints out the information of an article according to an arbitrary font desired by a user stored in the flash ROM 7.
