PURPOSE: A high definition recorder of a VHS(video home system) VCR(video cassette recorder) is provided to make possible high definition recording by using a VHS tape easy to purchase. CONSTITUTION: A color signal amplifying unit(32) outputs to a record-amplifying unit(33) by amplifying color signals to a certain level. The recording level of color signals is adjusted according to a turn-on/turn-off status of a transistor(Q31) turned on when an extended play(EP), a transistor(Q32) turned on when a S-VHS signal and a transistor(Q33) when a high definition recorded signal are high. The level of the color signals are adjusted and outputted to the record-amplifying unit. The record-amplifying unit mixes the brightness signals outputted from an FM amplifying unit with the color signals and generates as video signals. The video signals are amplified to a recordable optimal recording level and recorded on a VHS tape by passing through a rotary transformer and a recording head.
