PURPOSE: A channel gain auto control device of a dolby surround system is provided to make users feeling more various cubic effects by automatically controlling surround sound gain according to variation of screen brightness after analyzing the brightness. CONSTITUTION: A channel gain auto control device of a dolby surround system comprises: a first/second memory section (10/20) storing brightness of a first input picture and a later input picture; a picture division section (30) dividing the input brightness into a center section and a peripheral section; a histogram extract section (40) extracting each brightness histogram from the center section and the peripheral section divided by the picture division section, and calculating a distribution width of the brightness values and the most distributed value; and a first/second comparison section (50/60) respectively comparing the brightest values and variations of brightness distribution width of the center section and peripheral section extracted from the histogram extract section and outputting them to a micro processer.
