PURPOSE: A method of automatically controlling a VCR(video cassette recorder) is provided to automatically record/ edit a video tape depending on mode selection of a user by setting edit start/still points with an audio line jack without an additional connecting line in editing the VCR. CONSTITUTION: In pushing a still button to skip a part while playing a tape of a playing VCR(100), a first microcomputer(130) outputs an edit control signal to a recording VCR(200) through a switching unit(120) and an audio. The edit still signal operates the recording VCR in a still mode. The same operation is repeated when a user pushes an edit start button at a starting point of the recorded part. In pushing an edit finish button, the playing/recording VCRs are changed into a stop mode. The playing VCR outputs the edit control signal by pushing the edit cancel button, and the recording VCR rewinds the former part after erasing the latest recorded part.
