PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent at least rolling of an upper structural body such as a building, a support even if lateral vibration occurs when an earthquake occurs. SOLUTION: In a base isolation structure of an upper structural body such as a building, a support, a road, which is provided between a foundation and the upper structural body, this base isolation structure consists of a vessellike support base 1 which has a curved bottom part 3 and whose upper end is opened, a vertical shaft 11 in which a spherical shaft part 12 is internally mounted through a seal bearing 15 in the support base 1, an upper structural body U provided integrally in the vertical shaft 11, a fixing member 20 fixed to an upper end part of the vessel so as to press a seal member 15, a pressure medium storage chamber formed between an outer peripheral face in a lower end part of the spherical shaft part 12 and a bottom face inside the support base 1 to apply a pressure in the upward direction on the spherical shaft part 12 of the vertical shaft 11 by pressure medium, and a pressure medium 26 filled into the pressure medium storage chamber. The support base 1 tilts and rotates centered on the spherical shaft part 12 when lateral vibration of an earthquake occurs.
