PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a locking device capable of reducing biasing force of a door check even with a large protruding force of a latch. SOLUTION: For opening or closing a door, a handle 10 is operated, and a stopping mechanism to maintain a position of a latch 4 retracted, and a trigger mechanism to release the stopping mechanism are provided to be interlocked with action of the latch 4. The stopping mechanism is of a ratchet type in which a pin 20 slides into a step position of a slit 21 when the latch 4 is retracted to restrict advancing of the latch 4. The trigger mechanism comprises a lever 18 and a protruded part 19, and the protruded part 19 is pushed in by the protrusion 13 of a bearing washer 12 provided on a door frame to release the stopping mechanism. The stopping mechanism of the ratchet type and the trigger mechanism are thus composed of an integrated lever to form a sort of a trigger.
