PURPOSE: A device and a method for establishing the casting width in a continuous casting mold section is provided to increase productivity in width adjusting work of mold by adjusting the casting width by precisely measuring the upper and the lower widths of the mold section and to improve the quality of a cast piece by standardizing the measuring operation of mold width and by improving precision in measuring data. CONSTITUTION: An upper and the lower widths of a mold section are precisely measured by a laser sensor(126). Then, the mold section is adjusted into a horizontal state while moving the upper width of the mold section for being in an established inclination. Thus, the cast width and the inclination of the mold section are measured at the same time. Therefore, the establishing process of mold cast width and inclination is formed rapidly for improving productivity, and the measuring operation of mold cast width is standardized while improving precision in data for improving the quality of cast piece. Moreover, an optimum inclination is maintained for minimizing the generation of break-out while casting.
