<p>PURPOSE: Provided are sulfur-containing alkoxylate compounds useful as additives in fuel compositions having a mixture of a major amount of hydrocarbons in the gasoline boiling range and a minor amount of one or more of these compounds. CONSTITUTION: A fuel composition comprises a mixture of a major amount of hydrocarbons in the gasoline boiling range and a minor amount of an additive compound having the formula: R1-S-(R2-O)x-(R3-O)y-H wherein R1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 20 carbon atoms, acyl of 2 to 20 carbon atoms; aryl of 6 to 20 carbon atoms and polyoxyalkylene alcohol of the formula: H-(O-R4)z)- wherein R4 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of 2 to 20 carbon atoms and z is from 1 to 50; R2 is selected from alkyl of 2 to 20 carbon atoms: R3 is selected from alkyl of 2 to 20 carbon atoms; x is from 0 to 10; y is from 1 to 50; and the weight average molecular weight of the additive compound is at least 600.</p> |
