<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably secure a molten iron tapping quantity, even in the case of varying the ratio of iron oxide in the iron oxide-containing fine powder, when the molten iron is produced from the iron oxide-containing fine powder developed in the iron works or the like, with a vertical furnace. SOLUTION: This operating method is the one, in which iron raw material consisting essentially of an agglomerate obtained by mixing and granulating the iron oxide-containing fine powder and carbonaceous material and bulky coke, are charged from the furnace top of the vertical furnace 9 and the iron raw material is reduced and melted to produce the pig iron, and the pig iron is extruded from an iron tapping runner 11 arranged at a molten iron and slat tapping hole at the lower part of the vertical furnace 9. In such a case, the grain diameter of the bulky coke is adjusted so that the temp. of the molten iron extruded from the iron tapping runner 11 of the vertical furnace 9 becomes within a preset control range.</p> |
