PURPOSE: A magnetic disk device is provided to inhibit a head off property and the performance of the device from being deteriorated even if an erase band is unsymmetrical. CONSTITUTION: A magnetic disk device receives a recording command on a target record track from a controller. The magnetic disk device decides if the erase band of an inner circumference is larger than the erase band of an outer circumference. When the inner erase band is larger than the outer erase band, a write inhibit slice level for an inner circumference offset is less than a write inhibit slide level for an outer circumference offset. Detection for the target track is performed for recording. When the write inhibit slice is small, the data are protected from a settling residual vibration or abnormal vibration. However, the time for starting to write is delayed. When the inner write inhibit slice level is less than the outer write inhibit slice level, the average access time in the device is improved.
