PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handle installation structure for a fishing reel enabling the rotational operation of a handle in winding a fishing line to be constantly and smoothly carried out for a long term in a practical fishing in the severe environment of service. SOLUTION: When a handle for a fishing reel has its cylindrical shaft 3 having a handle knob, rotatably supported on the outer periphery of a spindle fixed on the end part of a handle arm, the knob 5 has an opening part 50 only on its one side and the opening part 50 has a female engagement part 5a. The female engagement part 5a detachably engages with a male one 3a rotatably supported on the spindle 2 in a slip-off stopping state and formed at the end part of the shaft 3. The tightening direction of the engagement is set so as to become the opposite one to the winding direction of the handle.
