PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for preventing the inlet part of the impeller of a vortex type centrifugal pump from being blocked caused by entanglement of foreign matter in the form of fiber or cord when the pump is used in a water with contaminant. SOLUTION: A baffle plate 10 having an outside diameter approximately the same as the inlet diameter of an impeller 1 is fixed to the under-part of a screw connection part 6, whose bottom is formed in a fastening operation part and top is connected with the bottom of a pump shaft 2 by a screwed structure, and the inlet 11 of the impeller 1 is blocked by the baffle plate 10. When this vortex type centrifugal pump of the described configurtation is to be driven, a water with contaminant inflowing from the pump suction port 12 is introduced from the peripheral zone of the baffle plate 10 to between blades 13... without passing the inlet part 11 of the impeller 1 and is exhausted from the pump discharge port 14 via a discharge conduit.
