PURPOSE: A method of outputting, recording and playing is provided to prevent illegal copies of data signals effectively to protect the right of a CONSTITUTION: To record data in a recording medium, discrimination data is detected from data for discrimination. Copy count data is taken out of the data to limit the copying frequency of data. The recording of data is controlled to the recording medium based on the detected discrimination data and copy count data. The data stored in the recording medium is played through a player and the kinds of recording medium and player are distinguished. The data stored in the recording medium decided to be played or not by responding to the distinguished result.
