PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for selecting the transfer speed of a multichannel terminal are provided to transfer the information of both voice signal and data signal of a subscriber using a terminal and a CDMA channel in the wire band CDMA WLL(Wireless Local Loop) system. CONSTITUTION: If a signal from a subscriber channel is inputted to a TDM multiplex, the TDM multiplex determines whether the inputted signal is from a data channel, a voice channel or both channels simultaneously(S10,S30). In case that the inputted signal is the voice signal from the voice channel(S20), the TDM multiplex transfers the voice signal to a CDMA modem at the transfer speed of 32 Kbps. In case that the inputted signal is the data signal from the data channel(S40), the TDM multiplex transfers a high-speed data signal of 64 Kbps to the CDMA modem. In case that the voice signal and the data signal are inputted from both channels simultaneously(S50), the voice signal at the transfer speed of 32 Kbps and the data signal converted into a 32 Kbps low-speed data are transferred to the CDMA modem(S60).
