PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine starting device for a vehicle to quietly start an engine when there is no torque demand and generate sufficient torque right after starting when a torque demand is high. SOLUTION: An engine starting device executes cranking when a starting demand is established at steps S10 and S12 and a fuel injection mode is decided based on an accelerator pedaling amount at a step S14. When pedaling of an accelerator pedal is low, lean combustion is effected in a compression stroke injection mode and explosion torque during starting is suppresses to a low value. Reversely to the above, when an accelerator is strongly pedaled, from starting time, sufficient torque is generated in a suction stroke injection mode at a step S20. |
