PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easily producible spacer contacting with an opposite member with point contact and capable of effectively preventing the mutual contact of glass plates over a long period and provide a vacuum windowpane produced by using the spacer. SOLUTION: A spacer 20 produced by twisting a wire having an elliptic cross-section around its axis is extended in a closed space of a vacuum windowpane. When the spacer 20 is placed between a pair of glass plates of the vacuum windowpane, it is brought into contact with oppositely placed glass plates 10, 12 with point contact at a part where the aligned direction of two focuses of the ellipse (the direction of major axis) becomes perpendicular to the surface of the glass plates 10, 12 to keep the gap between the glass plates 10, 12. The spacer 20 is easily producible simply by twisting a wire having elliptic cross-section around the center axis of the wire and, accordingly, the production efficiency of the vacuum windowpane can be improved. |
