<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely prevent the staying fuel from flowing into a combustion chamber at the time of switching a suspended intake valve to the opening and closing operation by forming, in a cylinder head, a communicating passage allowing intake passages corresponding to an intake valve openable and closable even in a specified operating and an intake valve suspended in the specified operating area to communicate each other. SOLUTION: A valve suspending mechanism is laid into non-operating state in a specified operating area in an engine, for example, low-speed operating area, so that one intake valve is suspended, and the other intake valve is opened and closed. In this case, a communicating passage 109 allowing respective intake passages 461, 462 corresponding to the suspending intake valve and the regularly opening and closing intake valve to communicate each other is formed in a cylinder head 40. When the suspending intake valve is suspended, the air-fuel mixture 110 in the intake passage 46 corresponding thereto is passed to the intake passage 462 of the regularly opening and closing intake valve through the communicating passage 109.
