PURPOSE: An inter exchange message transmission method is provided to achieve the transfer of a great deal of messages between exchanges which transmit messages using an ISUP(ISDN User Part) protocol. CONSTITUTION: If a receiving side ISUP receives information comprised in an SIF field from a receiving side MTP(Message Transfer Part)(301), the receiving side ISUP checks whether a segmentation message indicator exists(302). If the segmentation message indicator exists, the receiving side ISUP drives a timer to maintain a receiving standby state for a segmentation message to be transmitted next(303). The receiving side ISUP checks whether the segmentation message is received(304). If the segmentation message has been received, the receiving side ISUP stops the driving of the timer(305). Accordingly, the receiving side ISUP carries out a call processing procedure using SIF field information from the receiving side MTP and information comprising the segmentation message(306).
