PURPOSE: A method for processing a signal message using a signalling network layer protocol in the mobile communication network is to provide a signal message transfer function and a signal connection management function through point-to-point connection based on the ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode). CONSTITUTION: In case that a setup request primitive(SNL_EST_REQ) to request a logic link connection setup is transferred from a high level user unit in a RNC(Radio Network Controller), a SNL(Signalling Network Layer) transmits a setup request message(Establish), including a virtual signal connection ID(ImC ID), to a MSC(Mobile Switching Center). The SNL of the MSC transfers a setup indication primitive(SNL_EST_IND) to the high level user unit. If the SNL receives a setup response primitive(SNL_EST_RESP) from the high level user unit, the SNL transmits a setup response message(Establish Ack.) with the virtual signal connection ID(ImC ID) to the RNC side. The SNL of the RNC transfers a setup confirmation primitive(SNL_EST_CONF) to the high level user unit.
