PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of treating contaminated soil by which elution of harmful hexavalent chromium is restrained, treatment cost is reduced and the workability of treated soil is excellent. SOLUTION: After a reducing agent such as iron (II) sulfate is added to contaminated soil to reduce hexavalent chromium to trivalent chromium, sulfuric acid is added to the soil to make pH thereof 9 or less, and furthermore, lightweight aerated concrete powder is added to agitate the mixture. the eluted quantity of the hexavalent chromium is held to 1.5 mg/l or less. The soil after treatment can be solidified to hardness of cone index 2.0 kgf/cm2 or more, and also it is lightweight and has low viscosity and is easy to handle and excels in workability.
