PASSIVATION OF INK-JET PRINTHEADS

PURPOSE: A selective passivation of the channel walls of a channeled inkjet print head component and a method of vacuum processing the surface of a component in general is provided which is manufactured by the chemical vapour deposition of a passivated coating. CONSTITUTION: A process for the selective passivation of the channel walls (210, 220) of a channeled ink-jet print head component (100) by the chemical vapour deposition of a passivated coating, the process comprises mounting the component in a support (130) in registration with a datum location (175) therein, the support having masking means (170) for masking selected areas of the component, and depositing the passivated coating on unmasked portions of the channel walls.
