PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting peripheral devices in the exchange is provided so that an operator, if necessary, can always and easily recognize the states of peripheral devices by detecting the peripheral devices periodically. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for detecting peripheral devices in the exchange is composed of a SCSI(Small Computers System Interface) hard disk driver(12), an operating system(16) comprising a kernel(14), a central processing unit(18) and a RAM(Random Access Memory)(20). The kernel(14) in the operating system(16) checks the states of the SCSI hard disk driver(12) through a SCSI bus periodically. The central processing unit(18) controls the operation of the kernel(140 through a system bus. The RAM(20), controlled by the central processing unit(18), stores the status information of the SCSI hard disk driver(12) through the system bus.
