PURPOSE: An automatic channel selection device of analog/digital television and method for doing the same are provided to shorten the time required for channel searching by skipping channels without signals. CONSTITUTION: An automatic channel selection device of analog/digital television includes a synchronous signal detector(23), an MPEG(moving picture experts group) demultiplexor(27), a CPU(central processing unit,25), and a memory(26). The synchronous signal detector(23) and The MPEG demultiplexor(27) are included in the television according to the present invention. The CPU(25) searches whole digital channels using a NIT(network information table), and the analog channel automatic search is performed for frequencies except of the frequencies corresponding to the digital channels. The memory(26) stores the frequencies corresponding to the searched analog/digital channel.
