SOLUTION: This air conditioner 10 has an outdoor unit 11 and indoor units 12A and 12B, and drives a compressor 16 in the outdoor unit 11 via a gas engine 26. The engine 26 is started by an engine start control device 28, whose control unit 13 drives a starter 27 mounted on the engine 26 to start it and, on the basis of the engine-speed angular velocity, controls the starting time from the output of starting request signals to the engine 26 to the starting thereof.
