PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make connection possible without interrupting base isolation function of an existing structure by a method wherein a structure for expansion is constructed with its base isolation devices being locked, and the locked base isolation devices of the structure for expansion are unlocked after the structure for expansion is connected to the existing structure. SOLUTION: In the case where a structure 14 for expansion is to be built at one side of an existing structure 12 built on base isolation devices 10, a base 20a is constructed, being adjacent to the existing structure 12. Base isolation devices 10a are installed on the base 20a, and the structure 14 for expansion is constructed in succession, being independent from the existing structure 12, on the base isolation devices 10a with the base isolation devices 10a being locked with fixing members 22. Then, the structure 14 for expansion is connected to the existing structure 12 with temporary installation members 16, and the fixing members 22 are removed and the locked base isolation devices 10a are unlocked. Therefore, the existing structure 12 and the structure 14 for expansion united with the temporary installation members 16 are swung together, making both of the structures 12 and 14 protected from earthquakes. Since the structures are formally connected thereafter with properly installed floors 18, works for connecting the structures can be executed in a short period of time.
