PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To give an adhesive feeling simultaneously to both an underlay for calligraphy and a paper for calligraphy without employing a paperweight by a method wherein an under lay for calligraphy is produced by infiltrating a re-peelable pressure-sensitive self-adhesive in the top front surface and the under front surface of the underlay for calligraphy made of non-woven fabric or felt stock material so as not to impair the water absorbabilities of both the top and bottom surfaces. SOLUTION: A underlay for calligraphy 1 is produced by thinly and uniformly coating a re-peelable pressure-sensitive self-adhesive 4 onto the top front surface 2 and the under front surface 3 of the underlay 1 made of non-woven fabric or felt and the naturally drying and pressurizing or drying under slight heat and pressure. As the pressure-sensitive self-adhesive 4, a solution type or an emulsion type acrylic self-adhesive is preferable. In the above underlay for calligraphy, in the front and rear sides of which the re-peelable pressure-sensitive self-adhesive is infiltrated, however the densities of its front and rear sides are somewhat higher than those of the front and rear sides of the non-woven fabric or felt before pressurizing and the thickness of the underlay shrinks somewhat as compared with that of the underlay before pressurizing, through the infiltration of the re-peelble pressure-sensitive self-adhesive in the front and rear sides of the underlay, subtle self-bonding properties are held by pressurizing.
