PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate the pinholes of a film and to prevent fine platinum or its alloy grain from being released from the film surface by laser-melting the platinum or its alloy thermally sprayed film formed on a refractory product. SOLUTION: Platinum is thermally sprayed on the surface of an aluminum- mullite ceramic substrate in almost 400μm thickness to form a coating film, The part of the film from the surface to about 100-200μm depth is scanned by a laser beam from a YAG laser and melted. Consequently, a dense film is formed, pinholes are eliminated, the platinum or its alloy grain present on the film surface prior to the melting is melted away, and the grain is never released. Accordingly, when such a refractory is used in a platinum device for the glass industry, the reaction between the refractory and molten glass through pinholes is not brought about, bubbles are not generated in the glass, the fine platinum or its alloy grain is not mixed in the glass, and high-quality glass is obtained.
