PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent reversal of gradation as well as disappearance of thin line and missing of low density image when a dot lowering the ink density is deleted by decimating on dot of a bit map data. SOLUTION: A mask pattern for decimation processing having different decimation rate is prepared depending on the density of an original image. AND operation of the image data of an original image and a mask pattern corresponding to the density of image data is performed and the ink density is lowered by decimating on dots of a bit map data and turning them off thus varying the decimation rate of the original image depending on the density. The decimation rate is varied by preparing a decimation pattern for the original image of 100% density and changing 0 bit of the decimation pattern to 1 bit depending on the density of the original image. Decimation processing is not performed when the density of the original image is 50% or below.
