PURPOSE: An image compression circuit is provided to estimate pixel data and to encode the information so as to have variable bit length in order to reduce memory capacity. CONSTITUTION: An image compression circuit includes a first error detector(11), a bit size determiner(12,22), a second error detector(13), a pack(14), and a decoder(1). The first error detector(11) estimates pixel data according to pixel data sequentially received. The bit size determiners(12,22) determine the number of bits with reference to the estimation error maximum value from the first error detector. The second error detector(13) estimates next pixel by reading pixel data from memory sequentially, and represent the estimation error by number of bits output from the bit size determiners(12,22). The pack(14) arranges the estimation error according to the bit number information from the bit size determiner. |
