PURPOSE: Oxadiazole derivatives of formula(I), processes for preparing the substances and their use as medicaments are provided. CONSTITUTION: A novel oxadiazole derivatives include: compounds of formula(I) wherein X, Y, Z and R1 have the definitions given in the description and the claims; their racemates, enantiomers, diastereoisomers and mixtures thereof; and their pharmacologically acceptable acid salts. To afford the oxadiazole derivatives of formula(I) in which X is Nitrogen and Y is Oxygen, oxadiazole derivatives of formula(II) are reacted with electrophilic L-D-R4 compounds under alkaline conditions. Alternatively, to afford the oxadiazole derivatives of formula(I) in which X is Oxygen and Y is Nitrogen, aromatic hydroxylamines of formula(II) are reacted with carboxylic derivatives. Further, to afford the oxadiazole derivatives of formula(I), oxadiazole derivatives of formula(IV) are reacted with nucleophilic H-R4 compounds. The oxadiazole derivatives are available to prepare pharmaceutical compositions for neuroprotection or therapy of neuropathy and cerebral ischemia.
