PURPOSE: A switch port performance tester of the exchange is provided to test switch port performance according to a failure detection signal and to report the test result to an operator terminal. CONSTITUTION: A switch port failure detection part(12) detects a switch port failure according to a failure detection signal and provides the switch port failure detection signal to an interface switch control part(16) of a call and connection control part(14). The call and connection control part(14), controlling a switch port performance test by the switch port failure detection signal, supplies switch port failure information to an operator terminal(28) through a switch maintenance part(26). A subscriber and trunk interface part(22), using a virtual path identifier, a virtual channel identifier and a routing tag from the call and connection part(14), determines whether an associated path is normal, and informs the call and connection part(14) of it. An ATM cell test part(24) generates a test cell by the routing tag from the call and connection part(14), analyzes a returned test cell, determines whether an associated path is normal, and reports it to the call and connection part(14).
