PURPOSE: An apparatus for extending a space switch of the exchange is provided to embody a large capacity matrix used for a space switch into several small capacity matrixes. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for extending a space switch is composed of a first to an eighth time switch and local data link(52,54) and a space switching part(56) which comprises a first to an eighth interface and control data receiving part(58,60) and a space switch(62). The first to the eighth time switch and local data link(52,54) installed in an access switching subsystem receives call data and control data from the access switching processor in the access switching subsystem and outputs them through each assigned time slot. The first to the eighth interface and control data receiving part(58,60) receives call data and control data from the first to the eighth time switch and local data link(52,54) and transmits them to the space switch(62). The space switch(62), receiving call data and control data from the first to the eighth interface and control data receiving part(58,60), selects a specific switch among a plurality of space switches based on each control data and provides call data to the selected space switch.
