A monitoring assembly comprising a plurality of sensor modules (11-13), each sensor module comprising at least one sensor (E0, S0) providing an output signal corresponding to a condition being sensed, and a processor (1) for receiving and processing the sensor output signal and for generating an output in accordance with whether or not the condition has been sensed. The processors (1) of each module (11-13) generate outputs of a similar type independent of the sensor concerned.
