904,287. Practice rifle-grenades. ANSTALT FUR DIE ENTWICKLUNG VON ERFINDUNGEN UND GEWERBLICHEN ANWENDUNGEN ENERGA. Jan. 6, 1961 [Jan. 15, 1960], No. 703/61. Class 9 (1). A practice rifle-grenade comprising an inert head 1 of rubber, wood or plastics, a barrel 2 expansion chamber 3 and tail tube 4 houses within it a projectile 13 comprising a head 14 of heavy metal, a body 15 and fin structure 18 of hardened rubber or plastics, a marker charge 19, a detonator 20, an impact momentum operated striker pin 22 and a tracer charge 24. On firing a standard rifle cartridge a thrust is exerted on a circular element 7 and on projectile 13 by combustion gases which have entered expansion chamber 3 via orifices 8. The thrust on the rifle grenade is sufficient to project it only a few metres, and without damage, from the operator, but by suitably choosing the dimensions of chamber 3 and the number of orifices 12 the ballistic properties of the projectile 13 can be made to simulate those of a live grenade. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, the projectile 13 is inserted from the front of the grenade and rests on a shoulder 28. Further embodiments describe a grenade wherein the expansion chamber surrounds the barrel 2 and the projectile is inserted from the rear on removing the tail tube. Also the projectile may have a metal central portion with a head and fin structure of hardened rubber or plastics.
|
