The present invention relates to methods for producing an iodine-saturated ion-exchange resin that can be used in the sterilisation and iodination of drinkable water. According to the method, the process for producing a pentaiodide ion-exchange resin is carried out at a temperature of between 40 and 50 DEG C. The saturation of a triiodide resin into a pentaiodide one is achieved by dosing a calculated amount of crystalline iodine for 3 to 5 hours while continuously mixing the same, and by allowing the resin to stand in an aqueous solution for 40 to 65 hours. This method reduces the resin losses due to decomposition during the iodinated resin synthesis, which in turn reduces the iodine losses and prevents any contamination of the water to be treated by products from the resin decomposition.
